Infrastructure Development

Effective infrastructure - such as energy, transport, communications and water distribution - is crucial to New Zealand's productive capacity and growth prospects.
Shortages in supply or volatility in prices have major economic and social effects - which can be exacerbated by our challenging geography and widely dispersed population.

The Ministry works to create an environment that encourages and enables private sector investment in infrastructure, and to ensure that public infrastructure investments are timely and well targeted.

Infrastructure Resilience
MED, working with other agencies, contributes to a range of initiatives with the objective of improving the resiliency of New Zealand's network infrastructure.

Infrastructure Stocktake
The stocktake aims to provide an accurate snapshot of the state of New Zealand's transport, energy, telecommunications and water infrastructure.

Review of Issues Affecting Utilities and Road, Rail and Motorway Corridors
The Ministry has been given the task of reporting on wider issues related to utility access on the road and rail corridor, including cost sharing arrangements.
